Review by Russell Dember : Turtle Wax Polishing Compound

Turtle Wax Polishing Compound is a fairly fine white abrasive paste good for removing light oxidation, light scratches or sanding marks left by 3M Imperial Wetordry # 2000 grit sandpaper on paint or hard plastic. This polishing compound will leave light swirl marks that can easily be taken out with No. 7 Clear Coat Polishing Compound (see my review on Amazon of this product) to produce a mirror like finish.

Turtle Wax Polishing Compound does not say clear coat save on it but it seems fine enough for several applications without rubbing through the clear coat.

You can also use Turtle Wax Polishing Compound (along with No. 7 Clear Coat Polishing Compound) for restoring plastic headlight lenses, polishing the playing side of Cd's and DVD's or just about any other hard plastic surface. For noticeable scratches in plastics (or paint) you may need to start with 3M Imperial Wetordry # 2000 grit sandpaper (available on Amazon) or 3m Imperial Wetordry # 2500 grit sandpaper if you are a polishing fanatic (available from the website for "Tap Plastics" > SUPPLIES & TOOLS > Plastic Tools & Supplies > 3M Imperial Sandpaper > 3M Sandpaper Single (2500) - $1.85). Then use the polishing compound to get the sanding marks out and finish it off with the No. 7 Clear Coat Polishing Compound for a perfectly clear surface.

The sandpaper should be backed by something like a Meguiar's E7200 Hi-Tech Sanding Backing Pad (I use a flexible 1/8 inch thick rubber sheet) to prevent noticeable ripples from forming in the surface of the plastic or paint. The same backing pad or rubber sheet should also be use to back the soft cloth during the two polishing steps for the same reason.
